Boys who like girls who like girls who like boys who like boys like their girls...

The rise and rise of androgyny as a pivotal movement in fashion can be inextricably linked to the faces that have dominated the catwalks in 2011. Freja Behe and Andrej Pejic (3 up) swaggering down a stream of runways has heightened the allure of seeing gender play on the catwalk. Nothing looks fresher than girls who look like boys and boys who look like girls. It is no lie that strong androgynous faces have always been persuded into modelling, but 2011 marks the year that androgyny carried itself into a new trend, a new feel. The runways were ablaze with masculine collections. From D&G to Ruffian , everyone was drawing on the idea of a blend between what is alpha and what is beta. The perfect balance results in a sharpness, a modernity and an inherent coolness that designers such as Alexander Wang have been chanelling since their first collections. So turn up those cigarette pants, tuck in that embellished shirt and slick back your fringes. We are chanelling our inner 'otherness' for next season. And my goodness it feels liberating.
